We are excited to announce that NW Hope & Healing has transferred ownership of the Alki Beach 5k to a local events organization, Fizz Events.  This is great news for runners everywhere, and it’s great news for NWHH and the women we serve, too!  Now you can run on the same great course at Alki Beach, but you have more opportunities than ever to have a good time, all while raising money to support NW Hope & Healing.

Why the change?

The cost of producing a great run event is high, and the funds to produce the run came out of donations to the run.  With Fizz Events taking ownership of the events, 100% of your donations go directly to NWHH to support women in cancer treatment – and that’s a win win!

What’s new at the event?

In addition to the great course and great cause, there will be lots of upgrades for participants, including:

  • Both 5k and 7k options
  • Kids Race with Special Kids’ Superhero Cape
  • Women’s Long Sleeve Tech Top for all 7K & 5K participants
  • Logoed Cosmo Martini Glass & 2 Cosmos at the finish line
  • Finisher Medal
  • Personalized Participant Bib
  • Chip Timed Event
  • Live Music & more finish line fun!

How does this event help women?

Fizz Events is offering many ways to donate!

  • $2 from every registration goes to NWHH
  • All proceeds from tribute patches go to NWHH
  • 100% of your donations go to NWHH
    • Sign up now to be a team captain and raise even more with your friends!
  • A portion of all sponsorship dollars support NWHH

  1. Please can you tell me why this event(Alki 5K) advertises and provides shirts for “women” as in years past (5) our entire extended family has participated, with several men included. They felt somewhat ex cluded this year. 🙁 Also, can you please tell me if in years past more than $2/registration was donated to NWHH? Also, will you publish the amount raised for NWHH during the Alki 5K? Thank you

    1. Thank you very much for your question and most importantly for supporting NWHH at the run for the past five years!

This year, NWHH tried something different with the run because of increased, very high, expenses (police fees, city service fees, permit fees, participant swag, etc): we hired a professional event production company that could withstand the expenses and take on the risk of these expenses, while still raising money for NWHH.

While only $2 per registration goes directly to NWHH, sponsorship dollars and 100% of donations go directly towards NWHH, while other entry fees go to help pay for those expenses.

While this partnership greatly reduced NWHH expenses, being the first year of this change, there are some kinks to iron out (to your point), including the family focus and inclusion of men.

We recognize the importance of ensuring this is a fun filled event for everyone and will include this in our planning for 2018. NWHH and Fizz events are currently working to tally the final numbers from this year’s run (donations are still trickling in) and will post as soon as possible. Stay tuned!

Please feel free to email me directly at for further questions. Thank you again… Karyn Blasi Hellar, interim Executive Director
