SEATTLE, April 3, 2019 — Northwest Hope & Healing, a Puget Sound-based 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation that provides immediate financial assistance to women who are undergoing breast or gynecologic cancer treatment at Swedish Cancer Institute, announced today that the organization’s premiere fundraising event, STYLE ’19, will be held on June 7, 2019 at the King Street Ballroom in downtown Seattle.

“Unfortunately, for many women, breast or gynecological cancer is not only a health emergency but also a financial catastrophe,” said Karyn Blasi-Hellar, executive director of Northwest Hope & Healing. “Imagine sitting in chemo while worrying about how to put food on the table, or facing surgery while worrying about paying for childcare. We believe that cancer is hard enough, and that nobody should have to face hunger, eviction, or having the lights turned off during treatment due to a lack of funds. The money we raise during our annual Fashion Shows allow us to give immediate financial assistance to these women in need at Swedish Cancer Institute by offering both financial grants, as well as comforting Healing Baskets to let them know they are not alone.”

In 2018, NWH&H gave 400 grants to patients in need, totaling a record breaking $140,000 and hand-delivered more than 300 healing baskets. Since its inception in 2000, the organization has provided over 10,000 Healing Baskets to newly diagnosed breast or gynecological cancer patients, and raised close to $2,000,000, which has assisted over 2,500 patients and their families in financial need.

“I have been personally moved by this organization and what they do to support both women and men who are going through some of the worst times in their lives,” said Shelly Hughes, a past grant recipient and volunteer model coordinator for the show. “Like me, many of this year’s models have been directly impacted by cancer – several are survivors or even currently undergoing treatment. To watch them walk on stage in front of so many people, all in support of women and their families in the Pacific Northwest, is both inspiring and truly humbling.”

STYLE ’19 will begin at 5:30pm with a cocktail hour where guests can enjoy bubbles, cocktails and appetizers while they mingle and check out a variety of silent auction items. The fashion show, featuring styles from local boutiques and couture designers, will begin at 7:00pm and will include a live auction and paddle raise, followed by an after-the-show dance party.

Tickets are now available for purchase here. For those unable to attend, or who are feeling generous, a “Sponsor a Model” option is also available and will allow for more of our model’s friends and family to come cheer them on while they strut the runway.

*Occasionally, NWH&H also helps men diagnosed with breast cancer. Approximately 2,600 men in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer annually.
